Lopez targets Lyon stay

Argentine ace envisages staying with French outfit

Lyon striker Lisandro Lopez has confirmed his desire to stay at the club next term.

The Argentine striker, who is under contract until 2014, has become the subject of regular transfer rumours. But the 28-year-old, who joined the French outfit from Porto in 2009, would like to stay as he enjoys playing in the UEFA Champions League, with Lyon taking on Apoel Nicosia in Tuesday night's last-16 first leg clash. He told radio station RTL: "In my mind, I will finish the current season and then in July after the holidays, I will return to Lyon.

"Regarding the club's strategy, the politics have changed a little. There are fewer economic opportunities so the club is betting on young players and they do it well. "I have been playing CL for seven years now, and I would really like it to go on, as long as I remain in Europe. "Frankly, I can't see me being without CL football, I want it to go on." - http://www1.skysports.com/
