THE LATEST UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE NEWS – As the Champions League match against Celtic looms, Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova recognized the potential threat their Scottish foes could bring against them.

Vilanova said that he is especially worried with Celtic’s fast pacing, as shown in the side’s 3-2 victory against Spartak Moscow. He noted that his side’s defensive weakness – due to the absence of Puyol, Dani Alves and Gerard Pique, might bear more trouble to the problem.

Barcelona have not played past through rival Celtic since the 2007-08 Champions League season. In their last four meetings, the Catalans won twice against the Scots and have two draws.

German champions Borussia Dortmund and Spanish champions Real Madrid will clash in another exciting UEFA Champions League Group D fixture - their third group match. Dortmund is second in the league table with four points from a draw and a win. Madrid sits at the top with two wins making six points.

Real Madrid have played past through rival Germans Borussia Dortmund without losing in three previous fixtures, including two sets during the 2002-03 Champions League season. While both sides have not met in recent times, each squad pose relative degrees of danger.

Dortmund’s form, compared to last season, could have potentially declined based on their matches this season. From being last year’s champions, they are currently fourth in the Bundesliga tables with a record of 12 points in eight games – a sharp contrast to frontrunners and domestic league title rivals Bayern Munich’s current 8-game, 24-point winning streak. A dismaying 1-2 home loss to Revierderby rivals Schalke 04 further exposed their frailties. Playmaker Jakub Blaszcykowski will not be fit to face Madrid, while defender Marcel Schmelzer and midfielders Ilkay Gundogan and Mario Gotze will return to the pitch as starters.

Having won the Champions League for a record nine times, Madrid is on the hunt for its 10th title and seems fixated in doing so. While being eight points behind El Clásico rivals and leaders Barcelona in La Liga, they have beaten English and Dutch top clubs Manchester City and Ajax in their previous Champions League group stage matches this season. Keen on going for another win, the Spanish top club will most likely make minimal, if no, changes to the club. Playmaker Mesut Ozil might make way for Kaka, while Gonzalo Higuain might serve as a replacement for Karim Benzema. Cristiano Ronaldo – the club’s chief talisman, will definitely be a starter.

12BET DEPOSIT LATEST SPORTS NEWS – Republic of Ireland’s 1-4 away win against Faroe Islands has led manager Giovanni Trapattoni to say that his side is already coming back to great shape.

The Republic of Ireland manager, who recently denied that he plans to resign amidst media pressure for his side’s lacklustre performance particularly in EURO 2012, said that they “are in a good position in the table” after his side have played past through rival Faroe Islands impressively.

Trapattoni said that he still has no plans to resign as manager of Republic of Ireland. He added that they are now preparing for their next match in November against Greece and he wishes to keep the solid performance of his side by that time.

NBA 2012-13 News: Floppers Will Get Penalties at NBA New Season 2012

THE LATEST NBA 2012-2013 UPDATE – This season, the NBA will push through a move to penalize those who keep on flopping on games.

Penalties will be set to those who keep on making “exaggerated falls to the floor” because those moves have the tendency to deceive the audience and fans alike. After the first warning, repeating offenders will receive the following fines:

OFFENCE    FINE/PENALTY:
Second    $5,000
Third    $10,000
Fourth    $15,000
Fifth    $30,000
Sixth    SUSPENSION

Stu Jackson, NBA vice president of basketball operations, remarked, “…flops have no place in our game”. He noted that flopping leads to wrong decisions by referees when ruling on fouls.

Oklahoma City’s James Harden, who has played past through rival floppers, applauded the decision of the NBA. He called the decision a good one and said that players cannot “…get away with it anymore.”

THE LATEST NBA 2012-2013 UPDATE – Los Angeles Lakers centre forward Jordan Hill will be spending some time out from the game due to a back injury.

Hill incurred a herniated disc that caused pain in his back. He signed a new contract with the Lakers worth $7.2 million for two years. Mike Brown, Lakers head coach, described hill as one of the most talented prospects who has played past through rival players in the training camp of the team.

Scoring 10 points on the Lakers’ preseason opener, Hill will be out for an indefinite period until he recovers. The team will constantly update on his status.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are aiming to reinforce their bench for the upcoming season. Free agent Kenyon Martin appears as a formidable prospect since he lives within the Los Angeles area. He is a possible substitute for the centre forward position while Hill is away.

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Liverpool failed to break down a stubborn Stoke defense in a lackluster 0-0 draw on Sunday, maintaining the team's poor start to the Premier League season and its dreadful record at Anfield in 2012.

The Reds were attempting to build on their first win of the campaign, at Norwich last weekend, and struck the post through young winger Raheem Sterling and defender Martin Skrtel in a dominant second-half display.

But they were largely left frustrated by Stoke's heavy-handed tactics, especially in a dire first half, and lie in 14th place with just six points from seven matches. Just as woeful is its home record this calendar year, which has seen the team win just two matches at Anfield.

"They are a bunch of big men who make it difficult for you and there is no right or wrong way to play football," Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said of Stoke. "What I was proud of is our young guys stood up to that.

"I am obviously disappointed we didn't win the game but I thought the attitude and application of the players was terrific. As the game went on, we got into good areas but it was just that final touch, that final decision at the end of it (that) didn't allow us to score."

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez was Liverpool's dangerman but wasted his best chance when he shot wide in the 59th after a mazy run. Suarez, who scored a hat trick in the 5-2 win at Norwich, is never far from controversy and he was at the center of more allegations of diving here following an incident in the second half when he fell threatrically.

"Retrospective decisions are made on a Monday and Luis Suarez should be punished," said Stoke manager Tony Pulis, whose team is 12th. "The one in the penalty box was an embarrassment and how he wasn't booked I don't know."

Liverpool is already 13 points behind league leader Chelsea at this early stage. "It has been nearly a year since the club has won consecutive Premier League games so to still get the backing of the supporters with that type of record, there's not many clubs would give that," Rodgers said. "The players gave the club everything today . there were a lot of real positives and it was our first clean sheet of the season which is important."

THE LATEST SPORTS BET NEWS UPDATE – Arsenal continued to show their Champions League edge as they sent visiting Greek champions Olympiakos off to a losing bout. The hosts redeemed themselves after disappointing first-half performances as goals streamed towards late game to end the match 3-1.

Arsenal’s fragile defence provided hazardous chances for Olympiakos in the first half, with unimpressive showings from Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen. Manager Arsene Wenger revealed that his side has not yet recovered from their Chelsea defeat last Sunday.

Keeper Vito Mannone committed a startling error as his side lost possession after failing to pass the ball to Vermaelen. Santi Cazorla sought to compensate by attempting to score for Arsenal, but the Spanish playmaker’s free kick missed the back of the net.

Koscielny’s foul on Paulo Machado prompted his name to land on the books. The Olympiakos midfielder, awarded the penalty, failed to get past through Mannone’s save. Koscielny then received an undue challenge from Kostas Mitroglou, prompting him to take charge of a penalty that did not get in.

Gervinho opened scoring for Arsenal after becoming the receiving end of a fine passing stint between Lukas Podolski and Cazorla. Mitroglou equalized for Olympiakos shortly before half time after heading an assist from Leandro Greco.

With the first half looking lacklustre for Arsenal, pressure to heighten attack in the next half grew. Gervinho aggressively assisted Cazorla, who hungrily fired towards the enemy woodwork but went wide.

The lead came shortly after Gervinho, appearing relentless for a win, backed Podolski who played past through rival keeper Balazs Megyeri to blaze right through the net. Theo Walcott, substituting Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, closely amplified the lead through a volley that ended in a save.

Olivier Giroud sought to make an impact for Arsenal, but Dimitris Siovas stopped his attempt.  Aaron Ramsey scored his side’s final goal on extra time through a penalty-box effort.
